Dr. Baptiste is a residency & fellowship trained general surgeon. He is initially introduced as the Chair of Surgery at New Amsterdam Medical Center.

When introduced to Dr. Floyd Reynolds, MD, FACS, FACC (Chair of Cardiac Surgery, former) when Dr. Reynolds is working as an attending trauma surgeon, Dr. Baptiste realized that Dr. Reynolds is actually a very well trained surgeon, but is in a position that he is overqualified for, as Dr. Reynolds had recently returned from San Fransisco, but Dr. Diana Flores, MD, FACS, FACC (Chair of Cardiac Surgery, current) took over the position, so Dr. Lauren Bloom, MD, FAAEM (Chair of Emergency Medicine, current) decided that she could offer him a position in her department as a trauma surgeon, which Dr. Reynolds took as it was one of his only options. Dr. Baptiste ended up offering Dr. Reynolds the position of Deputy Chair of Surgery.

Dr. Baptiste & Dr. Reynolds worked side by side until Dr. Veronica Fuentes, MD, FACS, FACE (Medical Director, former) terminated Dr. Baptiste along with Dr. Agnes Kao, MD (Chair of Neurology, current), Casey Acosta, RN (Emergency Dept. Charge Nurse), & Gladys Miller, LPN (Behavioral Health Charge Nurse). He was briefly out of a job until Dr. Max Goodwin, MD (Medical Director, former) asked him to join him at Urgent Care Inc. in order to take down Dr. Fuentes, which he accepts. When all of the other employees return, Dr. Baptiste does not join him.
It is mentioned by Dr. Lyn Malvo, MD, FACOG (Chair of Obstetrics & Gynecology, former) that Dr. Baptiste had been offered a new position as "Chief of Surgery" at an out of state hospital, which he then accepts.
Relationship Background[]
After Dr. Reynolds meets Dr. Malvo, Dr. Reynolds finds out that his new boss, Dr. Baptiste is actually married to Dr. Malvo. This then causes some conflict between Dr. Baptiste & Reynolds in their working relationship.
Eventually, Dr. Baptiste allows Dr. Malvo to date Dr. Reynolds while also being married to him. Eventually, the relationship does not work out when Dr. Malvo & Baptiste move out of state for his new "Chief of Surgery" position.
