Dr. Floyd Reynolds is a main protagonist on New Amsterdam. He is the Chair of General Surgery at New Amsterdam Medical Center. He was formerly the Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery after Max Goodwin fired everyone in that department, including the former head.

Biography[]
Early Life[]
Later on in the show, we learn at the start of Floyd's internship as a Cardiovascular Surgeon he was arrested for speeding, and he decided to face this history.
Towards the end of the first season Floyd meets Evie Garrison (His future Fiancée) Their relationship continues to further. Just before the crash in 'Luna' Reynold's proposes to Evie.
At the end of Season 2 Floyd leaves New Amsterdam for San Francisco with Evie.
At the beginning of Season 3 he is in San Francisco but returns to help Dr Vijay Kapoor and soon returns to New Amsterdam full time. After his mother experiences a fall, he discovers his mother is diagnosed with diabetes. After a few tries of withdrawing insulin Max and Reynolds realize she cannot care for herself. Evie flies in from San Francisco to support him. They both get into an argument with Floyd's sister, whom causes Reynolds to feel guilty for not being present during the height of the COVID pandemic to help care for her. Evie and Reynolds break up so he can stay to be his mother's caretaker. Reynolds officially makes his return to New Amsterdam, but Max fails to inform everyone. Reynolds finds that he does not have a place in the Cardiac department anymore and searches for where he is needed landing him in the ED working with Bloom.

Floyd struggles with his relationship with Lauren Bloom, and he goes to visit her whilst she is in rehab. He further struggles when Max goes into meltdown, questioning every decision Floyd is making as a doctor — even to the point that he considers resigning from New Amsterdam, having lost faith in Max.
