Plot[]
Helen tells Max she will be at Heathrow in an hour, and she is closing her luggage. He tells her this is really happening; they will have an intimate ceremony with a few of their friends at the botanical gardens. He takes her flight number and tells her that he can't wait to see her. Meanwhile, the news reports that a massive hurricane is approaching.
Iggy is at home with Martin, and he explains why. At times, he feels compelled to assert his strength, which necessitates weakness, and he doesn't want to be perceived as a broken individual. Martin becomes upset, stating that no one wishes he wasn't broken more than he does. This has been his coping mechanism for years, and he has no intention of changing it. Martin leaves the room.
Lauren enters the nurse's station as Hurricane Alba, a category four storm, prepares to strike New York City and its surroundings.
Lauren calls Floyd; she wants him to come in, but he says no. She can't call Max; he is getting married. She goes around and speaks to many people, and they all say no. She encounters Iggy at the café; she reveals that she has approached every department head in the hospital to guide them through the challenging times, but they have all declined. He says she didn’t ask him; he grabs the binder she is holding and says he is in charge.
Floyd finds Horace, who thinks he is there to help him with some sandbags.
In an emergency, Iggy calls for everyone's attention, urging them to move everything not nailed to the floor, as they anticipate flooding similar to Hurricane Sandy. Then, a man arrives with a woman named April, who is exhibiting symptoms similar to an ectopic pregnancy. Lauren recognizes a tattoo behind April's ear and informs Leyla that she is a victim of sex trafficking.
Max is out in the storm; he sees a man having a hard time pushing a vending cart and goes to help him.
In the hospital, the power goes out and the main grid goes down, but Iggy assures everyone that the generator should continue, and it does. A blast of wind smashes windows, and everyone ducks. Iggy directs everyone to the stairwells; there are no windows there.
Max goes to the hospital with the guy he found near the cart, and he hurts his hip.
Floyd is helping with the sandbags, and Horace tells him to pack them better. Horace tells him that he doesn’t need any favours; he can do this by himself. All of a sudden, part of the roof fell in.
Fareed tells Max his wife is going to kill him; they paid a lot for that cart. Max reminds him that he can replace the cart, but not his life. Max keeps texting Helen; she is not answering. Fareed tells him he soiled himself; Max sees blood and says he thinks his kidney is failing. Iggy has moved everyone to the stairwell, telling them they are safe from the storm there. One by one, they begin to faint, and Iggy, unable to breathe, appears to be about to faint as well.
There was a gas leak in the stairwell; that is what caused everyone to faint. Max has a problem. He needs to get Fareed to the sixth floor on dialysis, so he takes him outside to the fire stairs.
Lauren brings April to the washroom for a urine sample and gives her two markers. She is to use the red one to write her name if she needs help, and she does. Meanwhile, Iggy is reaching a dead end after dead end, trying to keep everyone safe when part of the roof comes in with tonnes of water and electrical wires nearby. You can see the electricity crackling, indicating that there is no way they can proceed.
Horace's wife sustained injuries when the roof collapsed; a bone protrudes from her chest, and Floyd claims he needs his assistance to save her life.
Lauren tells April that she is pregnant, and since it is ectopic, they have to do surgery. The man accompanying her expresses his disbelief and forces April to leave the hospital.
Max transports Fareed to the sixth floor where he is receiving dialysis. Max checks his phone; there is no information on the flight. Then, the power goes out. Leyla runs after April; she has pills to use instead of surgery. Suddenly, with the lights out, the man notices that he is not pushing April; little does he know that Lauren is keeping her safe.
With no power, there is nothing Max can do for Fareed. He tells Max to tell his wife that when his life was at its darkest, she was his light. At that moment, the power returns to normal. Fareed calls his wife, and Max rechecks the flight, finding it over the ocean with no record.
Floyd gets Mrs. Carnegie in the ambulance; he turns to Horace and says he needs answers, to which Horace says he doesn’t have them. Then, Horace informs Floyd that he injured his shoulder while moving the beam, and he requests that he consult a shoulder doctor. Floyd says OK.
Lauren tells April that the social worker will help her; she wants to help her friend as well, and Lauren tells her that she can’t call anyone. She took back her future, but freedom comes at a cost. Until given the opportunity, April never believed she could escape.
Iggy tells Martin that he was in charge during the storm; the only thing holding him back was a voice in his head, and it was him. Martin asks what they are doing, and Iggy says he doesn't know, but he cannot be who he wants to be with him. Martine tells him that he should move out then.
Leyla tells Lauren they make a fantastic team. Lauren informs her that she will be living in her apartment until she receives her visa, and she will not be able to stay with her. Instead, she plans to move somewhere safe.
Max makes a call regarding the flight; he wants answers, and just then he gets a message that she landed.
Floyd sees Max and asks him if he can change his food option. Max says they don't have a venue because of the storm. Floyd says he has an idea. In New Amsterdam, everyone is transforming the roof into a magical space for their marriages. Helen calls Max, and she tells him she can't; she is so sorry. She never got on the plane. Max finds himself standing at the altar, capturing everyone's gaze. She hangs up, and he tells everyone she is not coming.
