"TBD" is the first episode of the fifth season on NBC drama series New Amsterdam, and the seventy-seventh episode overall. It aired on September 20, 2022.

Synopsis

Bloom, Iggy and Reynolds rally around Max as he deals with the fallout from Helen's decision. Bloom gives extra space to Leyla, but she's in for a surprise. Reynolds and Wilder help a young terminal patient realize his dream to star in a Bollywood show. Iggy has a breakthrough with a challenging patient.

Plot

Max lays in bed, reminiscing about the intimate times he and Helen have shared together. He gazes at a letter that Helen penned specifically for him. It starts with an apology, then moves on to explain why she couldn't marry him. Helen reads the letter aloud while Max and his daughter are enjoying breakfast. Helen continues to read the letter as each of Max's friends arrives at his house. Iggy appears first, followed by Floyd, Lauren, and Elizabeth. They spend time together, including Luna, eating and playing Scrabble. Eventually, they all leave. When the word "sad" appears on the Scrabble board, the letter comes to an end.

Lauren spends the night in Floyd's bed. He wakes her up, revealing that she has been couchsurfing for several months. The process of arranging Leyla's visa continues to stall. In order to ensure she doesn't sleep with Leyla again, Lauren decided to let her stay in the apartment alone.

Iggy cooks pancakes for his children while testing Sameera's math skills. Martin comes back from the store with a bottle of maple syrup. The two discuss their schedules. Martin consents to remain late on Tuesday, announcing the rescheduling of his yoga session to Wednesday. Iggy assigns breakfast duty to him, revealing their separation. Whether they have gotten a divorce is unclear.

Floyd and Lauren walk to the hospital together, and he shows her a video of his daughter. He receives a text from his father, who is skipping dinner with him again.
