"The New Normal" is the first and premiere episode of the third season on NBC drama series New Amsterdam, and the forty-first episode overall. It aired on March 2, 2021.

Synopsis[]

New Amsterdam is still reeling from the COVID-19 pandemic as a plane crash lands in the East River. When investigators come to interrogate the flight crew, Iggy fights against the clock to help the pilot uncover the truth.

Plot[]

New Amsterdam returns amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and the staff must act quickly to save who they can. In the pandemic, life is determined by social distancing, intensive protection measures and online meetings. Dr. Kapoor is hanging in the balance and no one knows if he's going to make it. Dr. Goodwin calls Dr. Reynolds for cardiological support, who asks "How can I help?" An airplane makes an emergency landing on the nearby East River and the staff of New Amsterdam needs to treat multiple victims.

  • As the start of new episode, the staff of the New Amsterdam, see a plane landing on the Hudson river, which is similar to the plane that had landed on the Hudson river, because of a bird strike, which had aired on TV series Mayday s10e05 - Hudson River Runway and was made into a movie Sully, directed by Clint Eastwood. It starred Tom Hanks as Chester "Sully" Sullenberger and Aaron Eckhart as co-pilot Jeff Skiles.
